I recently advised my client in relation to his employment matter. I was very grateful to receive a 5-star review and very kind and positive comments from my client. Please read on to find out more.
My Client’s Story
My client had worked successfully for his employer for many years. However, after a change to management and his role, everything changed. My client was isolated from his colleagues and left unsupported. When my client raised his concerns about such matters, he was then placed in a disingenuous redundancy situation.

How Did I Help My Client?
The Free Telephone Enquiry
After facing the above very difficult situation at his employer for some time, my client decided to contact us here at Lincs Law Employment Solicitors by entering his contact details on our website. I then contacted him via telephone for a free no-obligation initial enquiry. During our free initial telephone conversation, I was able to listen to my client’s concerns and reassure him we could help.
The Fixed Fee Consultation
After a free initial telephone enquiry, we offer two different appointments here at Lincs Law Employment Solicitors – a Fixed Fee Consultation or Settlement Agreement appointment. For more information about these services, please see here – https://lincslaw.co.uk/fees/employees/
Initially, my client had not been offered a draft Settlement Agreement by his employer and he simply wanted advice on his legal position and options moving forward. As such, my client booked in for a Fixed Fee Consultation.
During our Fixed Fee Consultation, I reviewed all documentation relevant to my client’s employment matter. We then spent time discussing the following together:
- The full background of my client’s situation;
- His objectives – i.e., what he wanted to achieve;
- Any Employment Tribunal claims available now (or could be in the future) so he understood the strength of his position;
- An estimate of the value of his Employment Tribunal claims so he could make informed choices moving forward;
- All relevant time limits he needed to be aware of;
- The next steps he should take to put him in the best possible position;
- The funding options available moving forward, if he required my further assistance going forward.
Here at Lincs Law Employment Solicitors, whilst the cost of our Fixed Fee Consultation is completely fixed, the meeting itself is of unlimited duration. We therefore took as long as necessary to discuss the above in detail. This meant my client could take his time to fully understand my advice, consider his options and decide how he wanted to proceed.
During our Fixed Fee Consultation, I advised my client that he had various Employment Tribunal claims available now and, potentially in the future, depending on his employer’s next steps. We therefore devised an action plan to put him in the best possible position and to achieve his objective of leaving his employment.
After the Fixed Fee Consultation, I also confirmed my advice in full and in writing. This ensured my client had a full record of our discussions. My client then decided that, based on my comprehensive advice, he felt comfortable and confident to move forward with the next steps himself.
The Settlement Agreement Appointment
After following my advice above, I was then very pleased when my client returned with a draft Settlement Agreement from his employer.
My client understood that, for his Settlement Agreement to be binding, he needed to obtain independent legal advice. I was therefore very pleased when my client decided to book in for a Settlement Agreement appointment with me.
To explain, a Settlement Agreement is a contract between an employer and an employee which, usually, sets out terms for the employee to give up their job, their employment rights and any Employment Tribunal claims they may have in exchange for a compensatory payment from their employer. For more information about Settlement Agreements, please see here – https://lincslaw.co.uk/services/settlement-agreement/
Here at Lincs Law Employment Solicitors, we offer a fixed fee service advising in respect of Settlement Agreements. Please see here for more information – https://lincslaw.co.uk/fees/settlement-agreements/
Before our appointment, I spent time reviewing the terms of my client’s Settlement Agreement in detail. During our appointment, we then spent time discussing the following together:
- The circumstances of his situation;
- His potential Employment Tribunal claims he would be settling if he chose to sign the Settlement Agreement;
- The overall “benefit” of his Settlement Agreement – i.e., what benefits my client would be receiving over and above what he would otherwise be entitled to;
- Each of the individual terms of the Settlement Agreement, in detail;
- The various options available moving forward, including my suggestions for negotiation of certain provisions in his Settlement Agreement.
In a similar manner to the Fixed Fee Consultation (above), our Settlement Agreement meeting was of unlimited duration. Our meeting therefore provided my client with the opportunity to fully understand his options and make an informed decision as to how he wanted to proceed.
Following our meeting, I also confirmed my advice in writing to ensure my client had a full record of our discussions.
Settlement Agreement Negotiations
After reviewing my advice, I was then very pleased when my client decided to instruct me further to negotiate contractual amendments to his Settlement Agreement. These being the amendments discussed in our meeting, as above.
I understood my client was, understandably, very upset about the actions of his employer. As such, I worked as quickly as possible to negotiate a resolution with his employer. After some negotiations, I was delighted to negotiate all necessary amendments to the Settlement Agreement to protect my client’s position moving forward.
I was then on hand to assist my client in signing the Settlement Agreement and providing the relevant documentation to his employer.
My Client’s Review
I was delighted to assist my client with his employment matter. I was also very grateful to receive the following 5-star review:
