My Client’s Story
My client was at risk of redundancy and rather than proceed with a full redundancy consultation process, they had been offered a Settlement Agreement. Although my client was keen to resolve matters as amicably and swiftly as possible – it was important they fully understood their position before signing. Further, there were several drafting issues with the Settlement Agreement which made immediate sign off inappropriate in my view.
How Did I Assist My Client?

During our meeting I took full instructions on the circumstances that led to the Agreement. I explained all the terms and effects of the Agreement to my client, along with the potential claims I considered they may have, and that were being waived. I also highlighted several drafting concerns which I felt needed resolving before signature. I then confirmed all my advice in writing.
My client was able to use my advice to liaise with their employer and very quickly received an updated version of the Agreement they were happy to sign, (all within the initial time limit placed on them).
